Derrick Johnson, Founder & Managing Member, boasts over three decades of senior-level experience in commercial office property management. It is his mission to help forge strong relationships between landlords and tenants during the construction process.
In the commercial real estate community, Derrick has served on the BOMA/Chicago Board of Directors since 2013, leading to his presidency from 2020 to 2022. In addition, his exceptional leadership was acknowledged with the distinction of being named a Crain's Chicago Notable Black Leader & Executive in 2022. His contributions to the industry also earned him induction into the RE Journals Hall of Fame.
Derrick's dedication to excellence doesn't stop at work. He's often on the golf course, embodying resilience and determination, values that define both his career and the legacy he honors. 1961 Build was inspired by the historic year 1961, when the PGA first allowed African Americans to compete. Derrick chose the name as a homage to the pioneers who paved the way for diversity and inclusion in the sport.
